Avalonia Progress Log No. 1

‘avalonia’ is this city i’m making in minecraft, its like a rebirth of a city i was building in like the sixth grade. it follows an age-old tradition carried out by some of the players i looked up to: naming your build the first thing you think of with zero hesitation (see: pwegocity, paradigm [often pronounced “parra-diggem”], drydock].

i’ve always been taking huge inspiration from Pwego. he ran the server i was raised on and like, ok ill just let you see for yourself here’s the timelapse series of him making pwegocity. roofs made of wool, vague european fantasy aesthetics, the occasional desktop computer or motorcycle just haphazardly placed with no regard for worldbuilding.. its a great way to do things ^^

here’s the “hall of heritage” which pays homage to a specific building from the original city.. i had a screenshot of it plastered over my 7th grade homework notebook xDD i specifically made the logs always upright on this one. its not just about nostalgia its also like, there was a time when this was just what we had to build with and we still made some amazing stuff. shoutout to the organ which i think is badass

and shoutout to this streetlamp design.. watching bdubs build i quickly put “using glass panes for shape-work” in my toolbox permanently. its seriously so useful xD it totally makes things look like a painting, with like occasional blurry edges and mixed colours. love it! !! !

here’s “the Sovereign”, a huge trading ship. still needs a little bit of sauce before i call it finished tho, so i’ll save that for later.

the statue of Eight Winds, the famous explorer who chose the location for avalonia in the lore πŸ˜€ ill have to make a seperate post with all the progress shots of this particular fowl

and at last a sneak peek at the theater, which i hope to finish sometime within the next human lifespan… >_>; WAY too big man. i hate builds where they get too large to make by hand so ur just spamming worldedit the whole time. totally takes away the meditative quality that building usually has.

that’s avalonia so far, basically. almost every building has interiors and shit as well, i can’t possibly show it all off xD if you feel like exploring it yourself i can drop u the IP and let u know when the servers up

experiment on a superflat, or in a safe space or smthing!! some simple ideas to try:
        – using walls/panes on a diagonal wall to smooth it out
        – using glass panes for detail in general, the same way you would fences or trapdoors
        – using a mixture of glass panes and blocks in windows, for Depth
honestly the most important thing is to just try it out bc experimenting is so much fun even if it doesnt end up well!!
