MRRP
AIM: Construct a scientific research station in low Kerbin orbit, over multiple launches.
LOG 1 / Y1D23 / BOB: Kathbo and I have been crunching the numbers. The plan is to launch the station parts using the Spunka rocket, but with each one costing over 84,000 kredits it simply won’t be sustainable. Not to mention we’ll need crew and payload present for assembly, and we don’t have a crew vehicle small enough to share the fairing with the payload.
Ultimately, we’re short on time, and developing a new launch vehicle wouldn’t be cheap. We’ll see what Jebediah thinks.
LOG 2 / Y1D26 / JEB: The MRRP will be of limited scale. Ideally we finish up with three launches. The first was completed today without issue. To receive a greater variety of data we’re keeping it on an inclined orbit.

Spunka 4
AIM: Retrieve scientific data from the north pole of the Mun.
LOG 1 / Y1D23 / VAL: This old tin can is really startin to grow on me.
LOG 2 / Y1D26 / NAUS: The poles seem much more pockmarked than the rest of the Mun. Must be something to do with orbital mechanics. We’re coming home now.
MRRP B
PRE-MISSION / Y1D26 / JEB: The KSED has decided to create a “frankenstein” upper stage with the necessary capabilities, from the old Spunka upper stage. This is a terrible stopgap, but hopefully it does the trick.
LOG 1 / Y1D27 / BILL: Jeb’s got us doing a bit of spacewalking to put the MRRP together. I’m here over the northern hemisphere, and I tell you it feels like flying. I suppose I am flying.
LOG 2 / Y1D27 / NAUS: Bill and Naus’ wishlist for future station assembly.
- RCS evenly balanced around the docking mass.
- Alignment indicator and/or docking camera.
- Robot arm???
Depending on how much crossrange we want, we could also MAJORLY cut down on the crew compartment fuel, and ablator. See you soon.
POST / Y1D27 / LEABERRY KERMAN: I’m Leaberry Kerman, assistant secretary of the KSED. I’ve been managing operations behind the scenes for a while.
After attaching the MRRP B module, the modified Spunka upper stage made a correction burn to land near the Kerbal Space Center. Four minutes later the reentry proceeded, and was successful.
However, on Year 1 Day 27 at 1:37, the capsule touched down on a steep hillside north of the KSC. It entered an uncontrollable roll down the hillside due to its spherical construction, suffering multiple large impacts. The crew of the MRRP B mission, Director and Pilot Jebediah Kerman, Engineer Bill Kerman, and Engineer Naus Kerman, were killed in the impacts.
We regret the loss of these brave Kerbals, and salute them and their work.

POST, INTERNAL / Y1D28 / LEABERRY: Following Jeb’s death I’ll be taking over as director. My first act will be to mandate that reentry and landing only occur in one of several pre-approved zones. As a secondary concern we are considering the possibility of conical crew capsules.
I still can’t believe he’s gone. It was quick and unceremonious. We had an apple waiting for him on his desk. I’m not sure where we’re going to find new engineers either.
